Cancellation and refund policy

How bookings and payments work for Sky Lantern Festival 2026. Please read this before you register.

1. When a booking is confirmed

Your booking is confirmed once payment completes, within 24 hours of registering. Your seats and lanterns are held for you during those 24 hours.

If no payment arrives within 24 hours, the booking is cancelled automatically and the held seats and lanterns are released to other guests. We send one reminder email three hours before the deadline.

2. If you cancel

Once a booking is confirmed, we do not refund cancellations made by the guest.

The venue and everything prepared on the day are arranged against the confirmed head count, so refunds are not possible. If you can no longer attend, please transfer your booking to someone else rather than asking for a refund.

Name changes accepted until: 7 October 2026, 23:59 JST

3. Name changes

Participant names can be changed free of charge until 7 October 2026, 23:59 JST. Email [email protected] with your booking number.

Check-in uses the updated names, so the new participant must be the one holding the QR code on the day.

4. If we cancel the event

In rain or strong wind the format may change, for safety. A cancellation happens only when the event genuinely cannot go ahead — a disaster, or an instruction from the authorities.

If severe weather, a disaster, an instruction from the authorities or another matter beyond our control forces us to cancel, we refund your participation fee in full.

Refunds go back to the payment method you used, and you are not charged any transfer fee. We announce a cancellation both on this website and by email to the address you registered.

Costs beyond the participation fee, such as travel or accommodation, cannot be compensated.

5. Changes to the programme

For safety we may change parts of the programme, such as when the lanterns are lit. If the event takes place, changes of this kind are not grounds for a refund.
