Songkran Festival 2024 — Event Report

Our first Songkran, a vibrant success

In May 2024, Sabai Mind held its first-ever Songkran Festival in Tochigi, bringing it to a successful and joyful close.

Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, is a celebration in which families and friends splash water on one another to wash away the past year's misfortunes and welcome the new year with a clear heart.

Highlights

• Thai food stalls and community exchange
• Blessings and dhamma talks by Thai monks
• The water-pouring purification ritual
• Traditional Thai music and dance

Far more people joined this first edition than we had anticipated. The sight of Thai and Japanese guests splashing water on each other and exchanging smiles made for an unforgettable day.
